Trying to figure out a pattern

I sleep the worst on Sunday nights heading into Monday. I'm aware I have to write two stories for C-Ville Weekly.

Usually when this happens I'll begin writing one while I dream. Especially if I've woken up once in the night and I'm struggling to get back underneath to slumber.

I was certain as I passed through different dreams that I would be able to turn in one of the stories I wrote. After all, I didn't fully enjoy wherever I was last night.

And now I'm awake and have been for just about an hour. I suppose I woke up at 2:30 a.m. after going to sleep around 9:00 p.m. or so. I don't see the point of staying up late when I'm at home. I have all of the time I need for work and self here.

But I don't like getting up in the middle of the night. If I look at a screen, I'm going to get suckered in and endlessly skim information I'm barely going to process. That happened last night for much longer than usual.

I could have gotten to work on one of the stories, for instance. I have two that I am writing from meetings and I'm not always excited about that sort of a set-up.

So far this morning I'm slowly getting into it. I don't like waking up so late and prefer getting up with the sunrise. The dip in temperature toward winter makes being in bed that much nicer, with my multiple blankets. The rest is worthwhile.

But some days I wake up and there's a sense that a story is missing. Sometimes this absence takes the form of someone I met in a dream I thought was real, experienced real memories that turned out to be phantoms.

And then I have to get to work. Even though I really do not want to. But that's now how this works.
